Season Dates
In Canada the seasons officially commence on the equinox and solstice dates.

In Australia the seasons officially commence on the first day of the month containing the equinox or solstice dates.

The summer solstice is considered, by some people to be the beginning of summer, & by others to be the middle of summer.

It cannot, logically be both  Since it is the longest day, it would seem, of the two possibilities mentioned, more logical for it to be considered as the middle of summer.

Using simlar reasoning, the winter solstice would more logically be considered as the middle of winter.
